TOM FORD Takes On NYFW

Tom Ford’s highly-anticipated runway event illuminated the designer’s ability to defy trends in favour of his singular vision. The eponymous brand ushered in New York Fashion Week with an unprecedented see-now, shop-now strategy. (While most of Mr. Ford’s peers will preview spring/summer collections, he diverted from this “antiquated schedule” to immediately offer his clothing to couth customers.)
The TOM FORD dinner-turned-fashion-show took place in Manhattan’s legendary Four Seasons Restaurant, while simultaneously live-streamed to viewers around the world. Alicia Keys, Julianne Moore, Tom Hanks, Uma Thurman and Zayn Malik were among the mega-watt stars in attendance. And what a spectacle to behold. The standout presentation celebrated a full-on 1970s revival while staying true to Tom Ford’s love of luxury tailoring. Shaggy-haired models sauntered in a sophisticated selection of voluminous topcoats, leather jackets, turtlenecks and oversized sunglasses.
Superlative suiting remained a key component in the fall/winter TOM FORD line. These slick ensembles were triple-canvassed and ergonomically cut to flatter a man’s natural profile. “He just makes bodies look good!” attested notable guest Jon Hamm. Beyond the perfect fit, Tom Ford focused on elegant fabrics lush in colour and texture. The style icon revisited British herringbone wools and rich velvets to further the retro attitude. He ultimately proved what’s old is new again, albeit in updated silhouettes and styling combinations.
As our TOM FORD buyer Ed Liston explains, “He has revolutionized men’s event dressing with his debonair style and distinctive quality. Mr. Ford bridges the gap between formalwear and sportswear by proposing new ways of wearing cocktail jackets — such as alongside Chelsea boots and cashmere sweaters. He has given gentlemen the opportunity to make a real statement with their tailored attire.”
