Step Into The World of Sutor Mantellassi

The Mantellassi brothers founded their revered footwear company outside Florence over a century ago, adding sutor, the Latin word for “shoemaker,” to their name. Today, this legendary footwear brand is among and sold only in the world’s most prestigious menswear stores. Each pair is made by hand, impeccably constructed but remarkably lightweight.

Standouts from the fall/winter collection include cap-toe derbies and whole-cut Oxfords elegantly sculpted from robust calfskin. The heritage label has also branched out to include sneakers within its timeless Italian aesthetic. These discerning low-tops are elevated with a burnished antique patina — the sort of artisanal detail that sets these luxury lace-ups ahead of the pack.

The Sartorialist Collection

This season, the brand has collaborated with Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist on a sophisticated capsule collection. The resulting footwear boasts contemporary details that reflect the famed photographer’s discerning eye and penchant for comfort. These flexible Blake-stitched styles are most notably set apart by thick rubber soles and tactile caviar grain leather uppers.

“I think that the best design seems to come from a selfish need,” says Schuman. “As someone who’s out in the elements walking around outdoors all day, but also attending events and meetings, I need a shoe that is both chic and rugged, one that is light but durable, a shoe that reflects an interest in fashion and style but is also subtle and doesn’t scream ’fashion’. With those ideas, we created a shoe that from the top has the traditional sleek lines of Italian design, but are set on a classic commando lug sole that lifts you up off the pavement, keeping your feet warmer and making it just as easy to charge through city streets as well as country lane.”

Sutor Mantellassi is available exclusively at Harry Rosen in Canada.
